when the character hawkeye finally gets the ribs he wanted but can not eat because has to go to work....why did not the character hawkeye take the cooked ribs and run to his bunk and stash them until later....for all the hoops he had to jump through to get the ribs should have tried to stash them....

I feel sorry for Hawkeye at the end of this episode because he goes through so much trouble to get the ribs and just before he, Trapper, Henry, Klinger, and Radar are about to eat the ribs there’s wounded.
I can relate. The Army fed us chicken lunch and dinner for two months in Karlsruhe. Eating out as an E-3 was not in the cards. They ate better in the Manheim jail.
As good as this scene is, my favorite is a later scene in this episode when Hawkeye negotiates with the operative over the Ribs and gets chastised for not ordering enough BBQ sauce.
I have often wondered if there were cooks in these army units who would bother to buy fresh food from the locals or kept chicken and planted potatoes and fresh vegetables. I know I would if I was a cook in charge in one of these camps. I grew up in a family of 8 with only my dad's income as a simple carpenter but we kept chicken and rabbits my dad would feed with the table leftovers and we had a back yard with a greenhouse to grow vegetables. Only milk we got from the farm nearby but the rest was homegrown. Often wondered if something like that was done and if not why not. Would have saved a lot of money and I think much appreciated by everybody in the camp... fresh milk and eggs instead of powdered...

I got to meet Jeff Maxwell, the man the plays Igor the cook at a convention in Burbank. I asked him how many times people recite the liver and fish speech to him. He smiled and said, "At least a million." Cool guy.
I miss the days of MASH it went for 11 seasons but it was never a dull moment something that's missing and TV shows today but it reminds me of my workplace which is a real mental asylum much like mash only with less humour
